IDOR’s research projects in Pediatrics cover relevant pathologies in this field as well as quality assessment and improvement in the clinical setting.

Epidemiology, etiopathogenesis, diagnosis and treatment of sepsis in children and adolescents

o  pCAM-IC – Delirium in pediatric intensive care units: validation of the pCAM-ICU Portuguese localization and its application to diagnostics and prevention

o CLARIPED and Smart-Track: new tools to improve quality and efficiency in pediatric emergency services

o   National reference values for neonatal triage by mass spectrometry

Epidemiology, etiopathogenesis, diagnosis and treatment of respiratory conditions in children and adolescents

o   HFNC-Ped – Randomized Phase II clinical trial to evaluate the efficacy and safety of using high-flow nasal cannula in the extubation of clinically ill pediatric patients

o   PAC-RIO – Acute pneumonias in infancy: prevalence of bacterial and viral etiologic agents and clinical monitoring in Rio de Janeiro

o   VIRUSRESP I – Viral detection in severe respiratory infections in patients admitted to pediatric intensive care units on the state of Rio de Janeiro

o   VIRUSRESP II – Viral detection in severe respiratory infections in patients admitted to pediatric intensive care units during the H1N1 2009 epidemics

o   PEDALI – Randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blind, Phase IIb clinical trial to evaluate the efficacy and safety of low-dose methylprednisolone infusion in early phase Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) in pediatrics
